Fire Service Application Procedure.
The Fire Service Application Procedure to join the Fire and Rescue Service is a lengthy and challenging process. All Services now recruit using the National Firefighter Tests. Your Fire Service Application has to pass each stage to move on to the next. Being thoroughly prepared for each stage is the key to being successful in this process.
To be successful in your application to the Fire Service you need to pass these stages.....
There are five stages:-
- The Fire Service Application Form - a detailed application form assessed against National standards (PQA's) that is required to be returned by a deadline date.
- Firefighter Psychological tests - you will complete a number of written psychometric tests including the National Firefighter questionnaire, working with numbers, understanding information, and situational awareness and problem solving.
- Fire Service Fitness Test - this series of tests gauges your level of fitness and ability to become a firefighter.
- Fire Service Interview - an interview lasting for around an hour wholly based around questions to assess your suitability to become a firefighter using the PQA's as a benchmark.
- Fire Service Medical and Eyesight tests - you will undertake a full medical examination by the Occupational Health Department in which they will assess your health in general and also in relation to being fit for the role of a Fire Fighter. You will also undertake an eyesight test to ensure your vision and colour perception meets the minimum criteria for appointment.
If you are successful at each stage you move on to the next stage. Upon completion of all the stages you will ( in most cases) receive a conditional offer of employment pending taking up your references and Criminal Records Bureau checks.
